Foundation staff members have been busy working with nonprofit organizations in town to help integrate them into the new BetterGiving Program. BetterGiving is an online resource designed to help donors identify and donate to nonprofits, and learn about community initiatives.
We want to thank the early adopters and partners who have devoted their time to complete their nonprofit portraits. We are excited to announce that more than 170 organizations have completed portraits in this one-of-a-kind database. The portraits include information on the people, programs and needs of each participating organization. They also include financial information to assist with donation and investment decisions.
For nonprofits, the benefits of a BetterGiving portrait include the ability to reach out to new and existing donors, share your organization’s story with the community, market through BetterGiving, automatically update your GuideStar record, save time with grant applications, and provide transparency to the local community.
A BetterGiving portrait serves as the common application for The San Diego Foundation, our affiliates, and other local funders. Portraits include programmatic, management, governance, and financial information. Foundation staff input financial information and provide coaching support to help nonprofits with their portraits.
Just one example of a nonprofit involved with the project is The Heartland Coalition. Mark Hanson, its Board President, says BetterGiving has been “instrumental in gaining a large piece of capital support for our Community Revitalization program. I am very grateful to The San Diego Foundation and the on-going assistance we have received in setting up and updating our site. It absolutely made a difference.”
