This affiliate was honored to announce this year’s grantees at the Grant Awards Ceremony in June. Nearly 90 supporters gathered at the Agua Hedionda Discovery Center to hear the news. The focus area for this year is Civil Society – Building a Better Carlsbad together. The deserving organizations are Kids Turn San Diego, which received $20,000 in support, and Interfaith Community Services, which was granted $24,545.
The Grant Awards Ceremony was featured in The San Diego Union-Tribune, Coast News, and the North County Times.
The Carlsbad Charitable Foundation is also excited to announce two new board members: Ernie Bray and Joseph Bear. Mr. Bray believes we should all take ownership and interest in our local communities. "We must remain engaged and help build a solid future for our children and community which will extend into the years ahead. My father was an educator for 38 years and taught me the values of teamwork and the importance of helping others. In discussions with my ninety-five year old grandmother, she stressed the significance of shared values in one's community. She described how families and friends helped each other during the Great Depression. These lessons of life left an indelible impression on me,"
Bray said.
