Escondido, CAThe Escondido Charitable Foundation (ECF) will celebrate its 5th anniversary on January 20, 2012 with a celebration at the San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum in Escondido. The event will include comments on “Giving is a Gift” – The Personal Impact of Philanthropy from Bob Wilson, philanthropist and Escondido native; Jack Raymond, Escondido Charitable Foundation Founding Chair and Bob Kelly, President & CEO of The San Diego Foundation. The remarks will be moderated by Ken Lounsbery, former Chair of the Escondido Charitable Foundation and partner with Escondido law firm Lounsbery Ferguson Altona & Peak, LLP.

“This special celebration will be a chance for our members to celebrate their accomplishments and an opportunity for all of those who love Escondido to learn more about the Charitable Foundation and what it means to give back right here in our community,” said Jack Raymond, ECF Founding Chair.

Current ECF Board Chair Jack Campbell added, “The discussion is a great opportunity to get insight on giving from some of the biggest names in philanthropy. Bob Wilson, born and raised in Escondido, found success in Los Angeles real estate development and has been recognized for his incredible generosity across the country. The Bob Wilson Stadium at Escondido High School is a testament to the fact that he has never forgotten his hometown.”

Founded in 2007, the Escondido Charitable Foundation, an affiliate of The San Diego Foundation, helps identify and meet the emerging needs of the Escondido community by encouraging and increasing responsible and effective philanthropy by and for the benefit of all who live, learn, work and play in Escondido.

The Foundation provides the Escondido community with a vehicle for legacy planning and gifts. To date, ECF has raised more than $1,000,000 in contributions and commitments for the benefit of Escondido. Currently, the Escondido Charitable Foundation has granted more than $456,000 to deserving nonprofits in Escondido and built an endowment of $575,000 to support Escondido’s emerging needs in perpetuity. “As one of the pioneer affiliate foundations, the Escondido Charitable Foundation demonstrates Escondido’s true commitment to civic engagement,” said Bob Kelly,

President & CEO of The San Diego Foundation. “A dedicated group of people came together five years ago and, by pooling their various resources, expertise and talents, created an organization that will engage and serve the entire Escondido community far into the future. It demonstrates what good we can accomplish in our communities when we work together and contribute what we can.”

“Now is the perfect time to join the Escondido Charitable Foundation,” Campbell said. “In 2011, we became one of the Foundations to benefit from the generosity of Matt McLaughlin through the Live Here, Give Her Matt McLaughlin Matching Program. This program provides us with the opportunity to double our grant dollars over the next three years, providing our community with a potential benefit of about $500,000 in programs and services.”

About the Matt McLaughlin Matching Program
Launched in 2011, the Live Here, Give Here Matt McLaughlin Matching Program promotes and grows charitable giving through San Diego’s North County communities. The program was established as a legacy to honor Matt McLaughlin, a generous North County resident committed to making his community a better place in which to work, learn, live and play. The program matches membership grant dollars. Through the McLaughlin Matching Gift Program, a portion of the Escondido Charitable Foundation’s membership funds will double and multiply the ability to make a better community.
