Scholarship Fund Honors Cathedral High School Grad who Died in Crash
September 13, 2010 – Gabrielle Nield and Edgar R. Nield have established the Natalie Nield
Memorial Scholarship Fund at The San Diego Foundation in honor of their daughter who died in a car crash last month.
“Natalie, was beautiful inside and out,” said Gabrielle Nield. “Her favorite quote was ‘Life is not
measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the number of moments that take our breath
away.’ She did her best to live out this message in every facet of her short life.”
Edgar Nield added, “We, as Natalie’s parents and brother, want to forever honor Natalie, who was a
recipient of a San Diego County Foundation scholarship herself. Her life has touched so many others,
and we know Natalie would want this scholarship to help someone who shares her philosophy and
strives to make a positive change in this lifetime, no matter how big or how small.”
Like the family of Amanda Post, the Nield family selected The San Diego Foundation for its trusted and
established reputation as the largest provider of scholarships with more than 150 scholarship funds
stewarded by staff. The fund is intended to honor Natalie and actualize the dreams of youth.
“The terrible tragedy that took the life of Natalie and her dear friend Amanda Post forever links the
families of these two remarkable young ladies, both in grief and the desire for positive change in
names of their daughters,” said Bob Kelly, president and CEO of The San Diego Foundation. “The
Natalie Nield Scholarship Fund assures that Natalie’s legacy will endure in the hearts and dreams of
the many students who will be helped by her scholarship.”
