November 10, 2009 - The Carlsbad Charitable Foundation (CCF) has received a $25,000 matching grant from the Carlsbad-based Leichtag Family Foundation (LFF) to incentivize memberships and support the CFF’s continued philanthropic activities in the Carlsbad community. The grant-matching deadline is December 31, 2009. Businesses and individuals making a five-year commitment at $1,000 per year to the Carlsbad Charitable Foundation by that date will see their positive impact on the community doubled as their first-year contribution is matched by the LFF.

Yvonne Murchison Finocchiaro, Board Chair of the Carlsbad Charitable Foundation, states, “The Leichtag Family Foundation’s generous matching grant will help us meet our goal of welcoming at least 25 new members to the CCF. The LFF has garnered an exemplary history of visionary philanthropy in Carlsbad, throughout the San Diego region and internationally. We are delighted to partner with it in making an impact on causes that are important to Carlsbad residents.” She notes, “Our 2009-2010 charitable focus will be on Civil Society: Building a Better Carlsbad Together.”

Bolstering a Culture of Giving
James S. Farley, Esquire, President and CEO of the Leichtag Family Foundation, believes, “Our Foundations’ intentions are closely aligned in many key ways. We both have an action-oriented desire to better our community and make meaningful impacts through philanthropy. Carlsbad has long been a community with a ‘family feel’ and we are delighted that our two organizations can work together to bolster Carlsbad’s traditionally strong culture of giving.”

Each year, the Carlsbad Charitable Foundation focuses on a specific issue, with members voting to determine appropriate recipients. In 2009, the CFF granted nearly $54,000 to three area nonprofits focusing on senior issues. San Diego Hospice and the Institute for Palliative Medicine received $28,400 to design and implement a long-term care education project in Carlsbad. Interfaith Community Services received $12,500 to provide emergency food cards and transportation services to Carlsbad citizens 55 years of age and older. North County Community Services received $12,500 to expand its North County Food Bank provisions and sites to ensure that qualified Carlsbad seniors get the nourishment they need.

Finocchiaro states, “Through the Leichtag Family Foundation’s matching grant, we look forward to expanding our Carlsbad Charitable Foundation membership so that we may make even greater impacts on our community in 2010 and beyond.”
