Common Good Funds

Common Good FundsIf we could look into a crystal ball and see the future, we would be able to contribute dollars to address San Diego’s most urgent needs long before they arise. Absent the ability to predict what will one day be the region’s highest priorities, we are grateful to those visionary donors who commit to San Diego’s future by creating common good funds. It is these broad purpose funds that allow The Foundation to most effectively contribute to the most pressing needs, today and far into the future.

Common Good Funds help The San Diego Foundation respond to the constantly changing needs of the San Diego region by allowing flexibility on how the dollars are spent. These funds are not limited to a specific cause, but are available for the most critical needs of the community as they arise.

By closely monitoring local issues, opportunities and resources, The San Diego Foundation has an in-depth understanding of the region’s challenges and the organizations addressing them. Together with our volunteer Working Groups, The Foundation establishes initiatives for change across subject areas essential to the well-being of every San Diegan, and then provides grants to those organizations and programs working to advance The Foundation’s initiatives in each subject area. These areas include arts & culture, civil society, the environment, health & human services, organizational success, scholarships, teachers’ fund and science & technology.
