The Rancho Bernardo Community Foundation kicked off its 20th year planning several events for the RB community. The year starts off with the first Annual Symposium on Philanthropy on February 25th, featuring Ken Blanchard (author of "The One Minute Manager"); and continues with the Pathway to Pride program, the RBCF Cruise, and Thanksgiving Luncheon.
The foundation, an affiliate of the San Diego Foundation, is excited to bring on three new directors this year, Kevin Martin, Jeff Shea, and Nick Anastasopoulos. The RBCF provides assistance to the Rancho Bernardo community through funding for projects and programs focused on senior services, youth activities, recreation, promotion of the arts, educational enhancement, civic enhancement and community protection by building a permanent, growing endowment fund to meet Rancho Bernardo's changing priorities and emerging needs.

Initial Grants Total $65,750 to Support Critical Areas of Need
In the aftermath of the November 2007 Witch Creek Fire, The Rancho Bernardo Community Foundation brought together community and business leaders to assess the needs of the Rancho Bernardo community. Out of this meeting, RB United was formed and now serves as a coalition dedicated to meeting the needs of fire survivors within and around Rancho Bernardo.

The coalition group formed by the Rancho Bernardo Community Foundation and originally named the Rebuilding RB Coalition has changed its name to RB United, and it has launched its web site: RBUnited.com. The new name was chosen to capture the spirit of Rancho Bernardo going forward as a community to meet the challenges ahead, according to Eileen Haag, RB United chairperson. “We’re very excited to finally have our website up and running,” Haag said. The group was brought together by the RB Community Foundation at the request of The San Diego Foundation, to help assess the community’s long-term needs in the Rancho Bernardo fire recovery process.
Nonprofits and organizations across Rancho Bernardo have partnered with The San Diego Foundation in an effort to build endowments that become a well of support for charitable causes in Rancho Bernardo, enhancing residents’ quality of life now and for generations to come. Through its region-wide initiative, Endow San Diego, The San Diego Foundation is informing and inspiring San Diegans about the benefits of endowment building. Endowments are permanent charitable funds with the requirement that the principal is never spent. The balance of these funds is invested, earning income that is then spent to support charitable works in perpetuity. As part of Endow San Diego, The San Diego Foundation and the Rancho Bernardo Community Foundation have launched a new campaign: Endow RB.
