Land and Watershed Conservation

Land and Watershed Conservation

The Land and Watershed Conservation Initiative advances the completion of a network of recreational parks and natural areas on rivers, canyons, lagoons and beaches to provide healthy lands, clean water and habitat for people and wildlife.

The Foundation is pleased to partner with a large and diverse group of outstanding nonprofit organizations working to ensure all future generations enjoy clean air, safe water, diverse wildlife and access to green spaces along with natural areas throughout San Diego County. To date, funds have enabled local land trusts and community organizations to collectively acquire and enhance more than 34,000 acres of critical habitats and green space, while engaging approximately 20,000 volunteers in community outreach, advocacy, and environment-based education programs.

Parks For Everyone

The City Project and The San Diego Foundation partnered to gain a better understanding of the state of green access in the San Diego region. The Parks for Everyone report uses geographic, demographic, and economic data to map and assess the overall accessibility of the region’s green space, as well as to examine the equity of green access by analyzing whether certain groups of people, based on income level, race or ethnicity, have more or less access to these resources. The Parks for Everyone report is a summary of the white paper Green Access and Equity for the San Diego Region.
