Regional Information Initiative
In 2010, the Civil Society Program launched
The People’s Post: Local Voices. On The Web. This is a significant project of the Regional Information Initiative, a multi-year project to better inform and engage the region’s diverse communities through innovative use of digital media. It creates a digital network of local news and information characterized by professional and lay journalism, community-based digital storytelling, and robust user-engagement.
The People's Post strengthens civil society by enabling San Diego County residents to record, share and value their own stories. It fosters a broader, deeper understanding of the insights and experiences of others in the region - and it encourages public dialogue, builds community knowledge and empowers positive social change.
This Initiative was made possible by a two-year challenge grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
The Foundation’s primary partners in this endeavor are the voiceofsandiego.org, Media Arts Center San Diego, and the San Diego County Library. Special interest partners include San Diego State University’s Department of Religious Studies and Lincoln High School.
